Just a quick note for today with a few things I’ve found out there on the internets.
Is it wrong that I want one of these?
This is brilliant!
As you can tell from the last couple of posts, I absolutely love Christmas, I love giving presents and writing cards and most of all I love spending time with my family. What I don’t love however is the complete emotional minefield that is trying to work out who you spend the big day with. I hate all the “well you spent Christmas day with your family last year, surely it’s our turn” and “well aren’t we going to see you at all on Christmas day?” etc, etc. In my opinion as long as everyone sees everyone at some point over the holiday it really shouldn’t matter exactly when it is, either Christmas day, Boxing day, or even the day after.
This year I put my foot down and simply said we’ll be having Christmas dinner with some friends of ours and then we’ll be doing a buffet on Boxing day night if anyone wants to come along, then after that I’m off home to spend New Years with my mum, so they can all scrap it out between themselves.
I was terrified that we’d be completely smothered by N’s mum and dad, as in April they moved to a new house, which is less than a five minute walk from ours, but they seem to have been roped into visiting N’s Aunt and Gran for the big day so we escaped unscathed, phew!
Just one more thing, what does everyone think of homemade gifts? I’m quite keen on making some, like fudge, or cake etc and wrapping it up in a nice box or coloured cellophane with nice ribbons and bows etc, but N seems to think this will tell everyone exactly just how broke we are, but surely something homemade shows your care enough to take the time & effort rather than just going into BHS and spending a tenner on some old tat?
What do you think? If you got a homemade gift would you prefer it, and any ideas as to what else I can make would be great.
